In the workshop, the participants track the story of photography further into the digital age, get to know different forms of contemporary photography and try out the medium’s creative potential for themselves in a practically oriented section. The workshop will take place in German.

Duration: 2–2.5 h
Educator: Christina Müller or Carol Baumgartner, Art Educators Fotozentrum
Pricing: CHF 550 (incl. material)
Registration: vermittlung@fotozentrum.ch

Workshop: “Networked Photography – Metadata, Algorithms and Artificial Intelligence”

The status of photography in our everyday lives has changed dramatically with the advent of digital cameras and smartphones. In the workshop we tackle important questions relating to photography. How are we visible online? What is metadata? Where is it hidden and what can it do? How do algorithms control and alter the visibility of images? What is machine learning and is artificial intelligence biased? Via a mix of lecture inputs, group activities and open discussions, we establish a specific link with photography and thus with contemporary questions of visual politics. The workshop will take place in German.

Duration: 2–3 h
Educator: Jana Honegger, artist and founder W3rkh0f or Carol Baumgartner, Art Educator Fotomuseum

Workshop: “Photogram – Creating with Light”

Photograms are pictures that are taken in the darkroom without a camera. As you experiment with different materials and creative ideas, you will create a wide range of interesting compositions.  Light reflections, shadow plays, razor-sharp silhouettes and superimpositions – the sole requirements are light, photographic paper and fluids. Spatial constraints in the photo lab mean that the number of participants is limited to a maximum of fifteen. The workshop is held in German.

Workshop: “Camera Obscura – Back to the Origins of Photography”

This workshop is devoted to the phenomenon of the camera obscura. After entering the museum’s very own “dark chamber”, you will experiment with pinhole cameras and expose your own images outside, which we will then develop together in the black-and-white lab. The resulting negatives and positives are yours to take home with you. Spatial constraints in the photo lab mean that the number of participants is limited to a maximum of fifteen. The workshop is held in German.
