David Armstrong
b. 1954 (Arlington, US) – 2014 (Los Angeles, US)
A graduate of the legendary Museum School in Boston like Nan Goldin and Mark Morrisroe, David Armstrong has created intimate, ethereal portraits for decades; mostly of friends, whom he has depicted in a manner as fragile and timeless as old movie stars. His visual language crosses traditional boundaries, adapting to both the Whitney Museum and GQ magazine. As if in counterpoint to his hypnotically detailed close-ups of people are Armstrong’s soft-focus images of landscapes and architecture, which have also been a part of his repertoire for the last twenty years.
