In Double Extension Beauty Tube, thousands of photographs of self-absorbed youth—flashing up in staccatoed rhythm or dissipating as if in slow motion—are interwoven into a dazzling visual tapestry of diverse gender identities, accompanied by a pulsing beat. The large scale video installation by Scagliola/Meier is a contemporary counterpart to Nan Goldin’s famous slideshow, The Ballad of Sexual Dependency, which became legendary for its documentation of the 1970 and 80s Boston and New York underground scene.
